Assignment #10 - Final Book Review

Write a book review of the novel you read.  I expect very detailed responses for this assignment mainly because it is your final one for your novel.  YOU MUST follow the criteria given on the following websites: (Choose the appropriate criteria according to your novel - fiction or non-fiction)

Assignment #9 - Mood

What is the general feeling or mood of the book?  Give specific examples of how the author creates that feeling or mood.

Assignment # 8 - CULTURE

Explain one specific aspect of the culture described in the book.  Tell how it compares to a specific culture you are familiar with. (paragraph form)

Assignment #7 - Discrimination

There is an underlying theme in this novel regarding discrimination.    

1.)  How would you feel if you were discriminated against because of your skin colour, culture, religion, social group, or ethnic background?  Write a paragraph explaining why you would feel this way.  Be sure to include good supporting sentences to back up your opinion.  

2.) Give an example of discrimination/persecution from your novel and explain how it made you feel when you read that section of your novel.

Assignment #6 - Powerful Passage

Write about the most powerful passage in your novel.  

1.) What was the passage/event?  

2.) Describe in great detail why you feel this passage/event from the story had a profound impact on you.  Be sure to include details and examples from the novel.  

Assignment #5 - Descriptive Writing

We have been working on descriptive writing all year.  This is your opportunity to show the class your descriptive writing abilities.  Write a paragraph describing (in your own words) an exciting event that occurred in your story.  Be sure to provide as many details as possible and provide support by using examples from the story.  Remember, make sure your writing is fluid by using proper transitions.

1.) Use as many good adjectives as possible to describe the nouns in your paragraph.

2.) Use as many good adverbs as possible to describe your verbs.  

3.) Use as many vocabulary words that you have learned this year.

Assignment #4 - Visualization / Setting

Imagine you are the main character in the novel. Describe the setting and your surroundings given what you know about the story.  Be as descriptive as possible (use lots of adjectives when appropriate) and use transition words.

Assignment #3 - Opinion

1.) What do you think of your new novel?  Give an honest opinion of what you like and what you dislike about the story.  

REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ASSIGNMENT: 

         a.) You must have a minimum of 5 sentences ( I know most of you will have more)

         b.) Support/back up your reasons with examples from the story.

         c.) Use transition words (Example: However, also, in addition to, additionally, For example, To    

              illustrate, etc..)

ASSIGNMENT #2

If you could make a connection between one of the main characters and yourself, who would it be and why?  Explain using specific examples from the book that relate to your personal experiences.

Assignment #1

1.) Write a prediction about what you think your novel will be about.  Include enough information in your response to describe the 5 W's (Where, what, when, why , who, and also how).  Double check what you have written to make sure you have included everything that is required.  Be as creative as you would liek to be with your prediction.  Remember, it does not matter if your prediction isn't actually what the novel is about.  The idea of writing a prediction is to get your ideas flowing!  The minimum number of sentences for this assignment is 6.  Don't forget, you must write in full and complete sentences! :)  Have fun!
